Hello- Well this weekend "It's a nice world to visit" celebrates five years of broadcasting on the Portland Radio Authority. So, I guess this message will serve as my "Reasons to be cheerful (ad infinitum)".
The impetus for the show is equal parts Devo & Art brut. Devo for actually showing me it was possible to have lightning going off in my brain, and Art brut for sticking their finger in my face at a live show and telling me to start a band, write a fanzine, write a book, do something!!!
Five years on here I am, putting on a positive face every Saturday and enjoying the release that comes not so much with rock n' roll itself, but the moments when two tracks segue into each other, the sound on sound moments when one track fades with feedback whine and the next fades in a tremelo guitar and for a moment no one can say for certain where one song ends and the other begins. That's where I live!
I want you to know though, this show would not be possible, if not for you, the listener, the audience. As much as I like to say that I do this show for myself, going to the radio station each week, month after month, for five years now- I would never have made it this far if it had not been for the simple fact that people do "tune in" and listen to the show each and every week. I get a fair amount of regular listeners, people that listen nearly every week. And I thank you for that! Plus there are number of people that "tune in" and listen for a half hour or so, and often "tune in" again some other week. Lately my favorite infrequent listener is the person that tunes in from Mexico, every two or three weeks that persons tunes in, & listens for an hour or so. I do not know this person, but it's cool that he or she appears to be enjoying what I am doing.
